Bobtail squid have a symbiotic relationship with bioluminescent bacteria which inhabit a special light organ in the squid’s mantle. The bacteria are fed a sugar and amino acid solution by the squid and in return hide the squid’s silhouette when viewed from below by matching the amount of light hitting the top of the mantle.
What a wonderful thing nature is.
OH MY GOD

Australian scientists have developed a pair of anti-shark wetsuits that make divers appear invisible by camouflaging their bodies in the sea and trick sharks into thinking surfers are poisonous. A team of researchers from the University of Western Australia joined forces with designers from Shark Attack Mitigation Systems (SAMS) to create the suits. The blue pattern of the Elude suit can’t be seen by the shark because the fish are colour blind. While the stripes on the Diverter suit mimic the colours of poisonous fish to warn the sharks off.
YOU SEE THIS IS FANTASTIC. THIS IS WHAT WE NEED TO DO. NOT KILL SHARKS BECAUSE THEY’RE CURIOUS AND ATTACK US. WE’RE IN THEIR WATERS. WE’RE MAKING THEIR HUNTING GROUNDS SMALLER.
There’s also a wristband or surf board implant being developed that produces a signal that “interferes” with a shark’s sense of electricity. Apparently, they don’t like it very much and swim off. It’s still being tested, though, and they aren’t sure it will be effective on the larger sharks that are actually a threat to humans, such as the Great White.
(Bear in mind that the majority of sharks are more likely to end up our dinner than the other way around).
Over 1 millions children are killed every year in elective abortions, almost 50,000 of them after 16 weeks. Now let’s talk about how to best save their lives. #abortion #forthechildren
I really just love pro-life logic.
Why help those who have been born when we can stick our noses into other people’s private health care matters? Lets try to get them to keep their pregnancies! We can go back to ignoring them after they give birth.
Yeah, makes total sense, right?
You want to save children?
How about we start with the 397,000 in foster care in the U.S. and give them loving, permanent homes? x
Or the 1.5 million homeless children in america? X
Or the 16.2 million children who are going hungry in america? X
Or the 18,900,000 children who are refuges, running from violence in their homelands? X
Or the 6 million children in the U.S. alone who are abused each year? X
Or the 1.2 million children who are trafficked, sold as slaves, usually sexual slaves, each year? X
Oh, no, let’s start with the non-sentient fetuses that can’t feel pain, or know what’s going on.
Let’s ignore these millions and millions of living, breathing children who are living through hell right now.
A humans value is lost the second they are born. Especially if they are born female. That’s the logic behind pro life movements.
Pro-lifers are sad creatures

The Drinkable Book is a life saving tool that filters water and teaches proper sanitation & hygiene to those in the developing world.
Each book is printed on technologically advanced filter paper, capable of killing deadly waterborne diseases. And each page is coated with silver nanoparticles, whose ions actively kill diseases like cholera, typhoid and E. coli.
Once water is passed through the filter, bacteria count is reduced by over 99.99%, making the filtered water comparable to tap water in the United States of America.
The paper costs only pennies to produce, making it by far the cheapest option on the market. Each filter is capable of giving someone up to 30 days worth of clean water. And each book is capable of providing someone with clean water for up to 4 years.

when artists think that just adding breasts to a character makes her an adult but forget to change the facial structure to match
I need feminism because most men’s restrooms still aren’t equipped with baby changing stations. As someone who was married to a man who had sole custody of his young son, I’m hyperaware that feminism means EQUALITY, not female superiority. Feminism should and does support a man’s right to be as much of a parent to his child(ren) as any mother is allowed/expected to be.
This is a constant problem for Mr. Tea and myself. We’ve got twins, so even though I can change one kid on the change table in the ladies’ room, he’s left standing sort of awkwardly in the lobby with a messy child while I change one, come back, and get the other.
Nobody’s suggesting that men aren’t parents, so the lack of change tables goes well beyond ‘gender role reinforcing’ and straight into ‘ridiculous’.
My dad actually almost got kicked out of a mall once for changing my brother in the womens room of a mall. The only reason they didn’t call the cops on him was because the ladies in the room supported him.
I’d never even considered this but I support it
I have seriously always wondered about this. I mean, most malls and such here have “family” rest rooms with change tables but I mean I have watched many a father bring his child out to the car to change because they don’t have rest room access. I am SO glad this is a post!!
